Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effect of radiotherapy and chemotherapy on survival in patients of incompletely resected stage III non-small cell lung cancer. Methods Forty eight patients with incompletely resected stage III non-small cell lung cancer (IIIA 34 cases, IIIB14 cases) were divided into two group: the postoperative radiotherapy group (group A, 25 cases) and the postoperative radiotherapy combined chemotherapy group (group B, 23 cases). To evaluate the effect on survival time of these two groups. Results The mean survival and 1-, 2-, 3-year survival rates were 16 months and 67%,29%,17% in all patients, and 12 months and 57%,21%,13% in group A, and 18 months and 77%,37%,22% in group B. The survival rates of group B were significantly higher than those of group A(P0.05). Conclusion Radiotherapy combined chemotherapy is better than radiotherapy alone in increasing survival rate for incompletely resected stage III non-small cell lung cancer.
