Abstract

Dissolved organic matter(DOM) can form complexes with arsenic(As) and thus affect speciation, mobility, and bioavailability of As in the environment. This paper summarizes the available studies that dealt with As—DOM complexation and the formation of As—DOM complexes, for the sake of providing systematic information on this subject.Topics discussed in this paper include(1) Forms of As—DOM complexation;(2) Separation and determination of As—DOM complexes;(3) Documentation of evidence supporting the formation of As—DOM complexes;(4) Environmental significance of As—DOM complexes formation;and(5) Future research needs in this field.
