Abstract
Objective To investigate the relationships between impaired fasting glucose(IFG) and type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) with the elevated serum aminotransferase activities. Methods The association between IFG and T2DM with serum aminotransferase activities was examined by detecting serum alanine aminotransferase(ALT),gamma-glutamyltransferase(GGT),and aspartate aminotransferase(AST).2 402 adults aged from 18 to 75 were selected to conduct physical examinations and questionnaire surveys. Then the values of serum aminotransferases were divided into four groups according to interquartiles range to analyze the associations of these 3 aminotransferases with IFG and T2DM.Results Compared with Q1,fasting blood glucose(FBG),age, body mass index(BMI),systolic blood pressure(SBP),diastolic blood pressure(DBP),total cholesterol(TC),and triglyceride(TG) etc.in Q4 increased significantly. After adjusting BMI,alcohol use, smoking, and coffee consumption,ALT and GGT were risk factors of IFG and T2DM independently detected by Logistic regression.Compared with Q1,the adjusted odds ratios(ORs) of the elevated ALT and IFG for T2DM in Q4 were 1.74(1.30-2.34),1.47(1.09-2.41),respectively and the ORs of the elevated GGT for IFG and T2DM in Q4 were 3.15(2.01-4.45) and 4.08(1.88-7.65),respectively.Conclusions Elevated ALT and GGT levels are positively associated with metabolic abnormalities.ALT and GGT are independent risk factors for IFG and T2DM.
