The Philosophical Dimension of Contemporary Western Rhetoric

Abstract

As one of three disciplines of liberal arts of the Middle Ages,rhetoric has a close historical relation with philosophy,and the contemporary revival of rhetoric in the 20th century is based on the philosophy of language.This paper attempts to discover and examine some of the key issues both in the category of rhetoric and philosophy,such as the word meaning,the relation between knowledge and rhetoric and the ontological study of human beings,so as to display the philosophical dimension of rhetoric and discuss the contribution of the linguistic turn in philosophy to rhetoric.
