On the Trend of the Western-oriented Dress in the Period of the Republic of China

Abstract

By analyzing the causes of dress transformation in the Republic of China,this paper discusses the great influence of the transformation on Chinese dress to go western-oriented,which is mainly shown in the following aspects. The hierarchy of dress died out completely. Chinese dress developed in the blend of Chinese and western dress culture. For example,dress style went from two dimensions to three dimensions. Dress material went from simplicity to variety. And the wearing style went from purely Chinese to the combination of Chinese and western styles. Meanwhile,a new era of fashion show in Chinese was created.
