Abstract
Acute toxicity (15min-EC50) of 11 phenols to photo-bacterium phosphoreum was measured at different pH. Quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSARs) were established using two physico-chemical parameters logP and pKa, based on which the toxic mechanisms of anilines were prelimi-narily discussed. Results showed that the acute toxicity of phenols decreased with pH,which is related to the ionization degree of phenols. The toxicity of phenols varies with the kind,number and position of substituents at the same pH. Phenols are polar narcosis (narcosis II) compounds, whose toxicity to photobacterium phosphoreum can be described by logP and pKa.
