Effect of Combined Acupuncture and Rehabilitation Training on Motor Function after Stroke

Abstract

Objective To observe the effect of combined acupuncture and rehabilitation training in recovering motor function after stroke.Methods Ninety post-stroke patients were randomized into a control group,a rehabilitation group,and an acupuncture-rehabilitation group,30 in each.Fugl-Meyer Assessment was adopted to evaluate the motor function of the paralyzed limbs before treatment and after 2-month treatments.Results The Fugl-Meyer Assessment showed significant difference in the three groups compared with pre-treatment(P0.01).Compared with the control group in the Fugl-Meyer assessment,it showed significant difference both in the rehabilitation group and acupuncture-rehabilitation group after 2-month treatment(P0.01).The Fugl-Meyer score in the acupuncture-rehabilitation group was markedly different from that in the rehabilitation group after 2-month treatment(P0.01).In comparison of clinical efficacy with the control group,it showed significant difference both in the rehabilitation group and the acupuncture-rehabilitation group(P0.01).The clinical efficacy was also significantly different in the acupuncture-rehabilitation group than in the rehabilitation group(P0.05).Conclusion Rehabilitation training has better effect than single medication treatment in restoring the motor function of patients with post-stroke hemiparalysis,and it can further enhance the clinical effect when combined with acupuncture.
