Abstract

Objective To explore the effects of ziprasidone as synergist in the patients with refractory obsessive-compulsive disorder (ROCD) . Methods 40 patients with the ROCD were randomly divided into two groups. One group were treated with former antidepressants combined with ziprasidone, its beginning dosage was 20mg/d and gradually increased , and mean dosage was 80.00 ±40.00 mg/d for 8 weeks. The other Assessments were conducted and compared by the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (YBOCS) , Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety ( HAMA) , Global Assessment Scale ( GAS) and Treatment Emergent Symptoms Scale (TESS) before treatment and at the end the 8th week of the study , respectively. Results At the end of the 8th week of the study , the total scores of the YBOCS , HAMA and GAS had much significant difference compared with pre-treatment (P0. 05) ,the side effects were milder and tolerable. Conclusion Small dose ziprasidone can be used as synergist of routine antidepressants in the treatment of patients with refractory obsessive-compulsive disorder
