Abstract

Objective To analyse the epidemiology, morbidity and proportion of salivary gland tumors. Methods 469 hospitalized cases of salivary gland tumors in Stomatological Hospital of Jiamusi University from 1996 to 2006 were retrospectively analysed. Results The average age of the cases of benign and malignant salivary gland tumors was 40.2 and 48.7 years old respectively, and the ratio of male to female was 0.7:1 and 1.3:1 respectively.Original tumors were mostly developed in parotid gland and palate in sequence.Pleomorphic adenoma, and adenolyphoma were the mostly eneontered two types of benign tumor;adenoid cystic carcinoma and mucoepidermoid carcinoma were the malignant. Conclusion The frequency of salivary gland tumors tends to increase and the ratio of male to female of malignant tumors is higher than that of benign.Parotid gland and submandibular gland are the most common location of salivary gland tumors.Pleomorphic adenoma and adenoid cystic carcinoma are the most common type of benign and malignant tumor respectively.
