Abstract

Common fragile sites are regions showing site-specific gaps and breaks on metaphase chromosomes after DNA synthesis are partial inhibited. They are the regions of genomic instability.Fragile sites are normally stable in somatic cells. However, fragile sites are frequently deleted or rearrangement in many cancer cells which demonstrated their importance in cancer. At present, most of the researches in the field are about FHIT and WWOX genes in over 80 common fragile sites genes, they play an important role in tumorigenesis. In this review, the research advancing of common fragile sites as well as the relationship between fragile sites and tumor were discussed.
