Abstract

Objective:To study the antibacterial activity of granisetron against Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa in vitro. Methods:A series of solutions including 0.5 mg/mL,0.25 mg/mL,0.125 mg/mL and 0.0625 mg/mL of granisetron were prepared with normal saline, and then mixed with standard bacterial inocula of Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.Every test was repeated for three times. Results:Granisetron inhibites the growth of Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and the inhibition activity increased with the concentration of Granisetron. The inhibition of Granisetron against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa disappeared at a concentration of 0.125 mg/mL(P0.05).Conclusions:Granisetron can inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa in vitro, thus it may be valuable in the prevention of anesthesia related infection.
