A Brief Review of Hu Xu's Thought about Yi-ology

Hu Xu was a Yi-ologist and Neo-Confucian who lived at the beginning of Qing dynasty. He developed many aspects of the Yi doctrine of Han and Song dynasty. He made an effort to form a coherent system to explain and investigate the hidden mysteries of Yi and tried to demonstrate the coherence of human being and nature. He objected the theory of hexagrams changing of Yi in Han dynasty, Zhu Xi, s divine theory and Lai Zhide, s theory of Cuozong. He argued that those theories can not demonstrate the multi-function of ZHouyi. The theory of Tiguazhuyaoposed by Hu Xu is very brilliant. This theory is able to explain many difficultideas that confused scholars before. From a reference perspective, this paper makes a study of his works and influences and preliminarily expounds his main thoughts about Yi-ology.
