Abstract

Objective:To observe the characteristics of projection fibers from vestibular nucleus complex(VNC) to raphe magnus nucleus(NRM) in rats. Methods: 10 SD rats were used.0.1μl 10 %Tetramethyl rhodamine(TMR) was injected into the NRM.After 3 days of retrograde axonal transport, the labeled cells in the vestibular nucleus were located and counted under fluorescence microscopy. Results: Many neurons retrogradely labeled by TMR were observed in the subdivision of vestibular nucleus. The majority of labeled neurons distributed in the rostral levels of MVN and LVN.Fewer labeled cells were observed in the caudal levels of MVN and IVN.Conclusions: The fibers of vestibular nucleus in rats are projected to the NRM.MVN and LVN are mainly projected to the NRM.It's suggested that NRM may modulate the function of information transduction in vestibular nucleus.
