Abstract
Objective: To observe apoptosis condition in hippocampus of the rats with multi-infarct dementia (MID) and the intervention effect of acupuncture. Methods: MID model was established by inverse injection of thrombus through external carotid artery. In hippocampus region, the apoptotic condition and change of apoptosis associated protein Bcl-2 and Bax were detected with TUNEL and immunohistochemistry methods. Results: In model group, the expressions of Bcl-2 and Bax in hippocampus of MID rats increased significantly, with the value of Bcl-2/Bax less than 1, severe apoptosis and arrange disorder. In acupuncture treatment group, expression of Bcl-2 and Bax in hippocampus increased significantly, with the value of Bcl-2/Bax larger than 1,apoptosis mildly and cells orderly arranged. Conclusion: Acupuncture can improve learning ability and memory of MID rats through promoting expression of Bcl-2 and suppressing expression of Bax, and accelerate recovery of brain cell, protect brain tissue.
