Abstract
Objective To identify the ultrasonographic characteristics of solitary nodular goiter and to analyze reasons for its misdiagnosis, and to raise the level for its differential diagnosis with thyroid adenoma. Methods The characteristics of 27 cases misdiagnosed as thyroid adenoma by ultrasonography and confirmed as solitary nodular goiter by pathological examination were retrospectively analyzed. Results There was no significant difference in diameter, echo of inner lesions and peripheral tissues. There were significant differences in peri-nodular halo, morphological features and distribution of peripheral blood flow. Conclusion The pathologic basis of solitary nodular goiter and thyroid adenoma are different,so they have their own ultrasonographic characteristics. Therefore we can make differential diagnosis between these two diseases by ultrasonography.
