Abstract
The characteristics,nature and the existing problems in Chinese contemporary literature can be traced to the thoughts and practice of the forerunners of the modern literature (1840-1919),especially the forerunners of the Enlightenment advocating baihua It can be said that modern literature(1840-1919) is the father of contemporary literature.
