Effects of Acupuncture on the Gastric Motility in Patients with Functional Dyspepsia

Objective: To observe the effects of the acupuncture on the gastric motility in patients with functional dyspepsia(FD).Methods: Ninety FD patients were randomly divided into 3 groups: the treatment group,the drug control group and the acupuncture control group(n=30 in each group).Patients in the treatment group received acupuncture treatment with Foot-Yangming stomach specific points,those in the drug control group were treated with itopride hydrochloride tables,and those in the acupuncture control group with Foot-Yangming stomach non-specific points.Changes in scores of symptoms and electrogastrographic figure in the 3 groups before and after treatment were observed.Results: Symptoms were obviously improved in the treatment and drug control groups after treatment as compared with the acupuncture control group(P0.01).Gastro-electric frequency in the treatment and drug control groups was significantly increased as compared with the acupuncture control group(P0.01).Rhythm in the treatment group was improved significantly as compared with the acupuncture control group(P 0.01),but there was no significant difference between the drug control group and the acupuncture control group.Conclusion:Acupuncture of specific points is effective in the treatment of patients with FD,and acupuncture can significantly improve the gastric motility of FD patients.
