Abstract

The paper studies the variations of shoreline and the area of deposition and erosion of shore and beach of the Yellow River estuary section during the period of 1976-2008 by using the combined method of remote sensing and GIS,extracts normal high-water mark through the interpretation of different time phase of remote sensing image data, conducts analysis and calculation with the support of GIS and obtains temporal and spatial variation data of shoreline. The outcomes show that the land area created at the estuary of the Yellow River delta in 1976-1987 periods is the maximum, increasing 21.65 km2 per year in average. The created land area is negative value in 1996-2008 periods when Qingba anabranch has a by-pass,reducing 22.36 km2 land area in total.
