Abstract
The effects and mechanisms of biological granular activated carbon(BGAC) in treating phenol wastewater were studied. The results show that BGAC,which can efficiently treat the phenol wastewater, has higher treatment efficiency than activated sludge and granular activated carbon(GAC).The averaged removal efficiency of phenol wastewater of 75 mg/L by BGAC,activated sludge and GAC were,respectively,98%,60% and 90%.Analyses of pH of phenol effluent and dissolved oxygen(DO) in the reactor show that the treatment of phenol by BGAC mainly depends on biodegradation and the adsorption of activated carbon.
