Abstract

Objective:To investigate the relationship of transvaginal sonographic endometrial appearance with the clinical pregnancy by in vitro fertilization (IVF).Methods:Three different types of endometrial patterns could be distinguished. The pattern and the thickness of the endometrium as assessed by transvaginal sonography were prospective evaluated in 124 patients undergoing IVF treatment. The measurements were made on the day of HCG injection and ovum picking up. Results: The endometrial thickness on the day of HCG injection and ovum picking up was negatively correlated with clinical pregnancy. No pregnancy occurred when the endometrial thickness was less than 7mm.But on the day of HCG injection, endometrial thickness ≥12mm improved pregnancy rate.Endometrial pattern on the day of HCG injection had no relation with clinical pregnancy, but type B endometrium on the day of ovum picking up was positively correlated with clinical pregnancy. Conclusion:Transvaginal sonographic evaluation of endometrial appearance may be an indicator of the likelihood of achieving pregnancy by in-vitro fertilization.
