Treatment of Postpartum Hemorrhage with Interventional Embolization

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of internal iliac artery embolization(IIAE) or uterine artery embolization(UAE) in the treatment of postpartum hemorrhage. Methods IIAE/UAE was performed with isinglass sponge in 11 cases of different causal postpartum hemorrhage. Results The embolization was succeeded in all cases with the first treatment.The stanching rate was 100% and no severe complication was observed.Conclusion IIAE/UAE characterized by its instant stanching,minor trauma etc is a more effective way than the hysterectomy for the treatment of postpartum hemorrhage and is a good subsititute for the latter.
