A Preliminary Study on the Expression and Significance of VEGF in Gastric Carcinoma

Objective To explore the role and the significance of Vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) expression and its relationship with clinicopathologic characteristics of gastric carcinoma(GC).Methods Immunohistochemical staining was used to quantify VEGF expression and microvessel density(MVD)in 55 cases of gastric cancer(GC),12 cases of adjacent normal tissue and normal gastric tissue.Results The expression rate of VEGF in GC was 78.2%,VEGF was mainly detected in cytoplasm of GC,the vascularity of GC tissue was asymmetry and mainly gathered on the edge of tumor.The expression of VEGF and MVD were significantly higher in GC than in adjacent normal tissues and normal gastric tissues(P0.05).In respect of infiltration depth,lymph node metastasis,TNM stages and tumor's differentiation degrees(P0.05) were correlated with VEGF expression,but there was no significant correlation between the VEGF positive expression and patients'sex,age and tumor size(P0.05).Conclusion VEGF may play an important role in the carcinogenesis and progression of GC and it hope to be a target for the therapy of anti-angiogenesis in GC.
