Abstract

Short sisal fiber/polypropylene composites were produced by the method of sheet molding compounding The impact processes of the composites were analyzed thoroughly by means of API impact test machine, and the impact fracture surface was observed by SEM The results showed that sisal fiber could improve the toughness of polypropylene most obviously when the length of the sisal fiber was 20 mm and the content of polypropylene was 30% When short sisal fiber was used to the reinforcement of PP, the absorbed energy during the fracture processes of the composite increased, the cracks propagated slowly and the absorbed energy during the last stage of the fracture increased, too
