Study on Urban Land Expansion and Its Driving Forces of Jingsu Province

Based on the analysis of the amount change,expansion rate,land structure variety and regional difference of the urban land use in Jiangsu province from 1991 to 2003,the present paper studies the main driving forces and their effects of the expansion of urban land use.The results show that,first,the amount of the urban land has the trend of going up while the average level undergoes the process from increase to gently decrease to increase during the past 12 years;Second,there are distinct spatial differences in the urban land expansion.The speed of urban land expansion is slow and the main type is inhabitancy land in North Jiangsu while the speed of urban land expansion is rapid and the main type is industrial land in South Jiangsu and in the cities along the Changjing River;Third,the main driving forces of urban land use change in Jiangsu are the economic development,the growth of urban population,the adjustment of industrial structure and the political and economic policy.
