Abstract

Objective To understand the half-year situation of family blood donors in Guilin,to explore the difference between family blood donors and volunteer blood donors and to understand the situation on relative blood donors who were qualified by blood tests to donate blood again within a year. Methods The number of family blood donors and volunteer blood donors from July 1st to September 30 th,2013 were counted. The differences between both groups in the proportion of blood donation, sex, age, the frequency of blood donation and blood volume were compared and analyzed. Blood detection results were compared. At the same time, the situation on the blood tests that qualified donors to donate again within a year was analyzed. Results Family blood donors accounted for 7. 07% of the total numbers of blood donation. Relative blood donors were mainly males and first time blood donors, and usually donated 200 m L volume of blood donation among youth or young adults. Meanwhile, volunteer blood donors were mainly males and repeated blood donors, and usually donated blood at a volume of 400 m L among young adults or older adults. The total unqualified rate in blood tests reported no significant difference between family blood donors and volunteer blood donors, while single unqualified rate( HBs Ag,ALT) reported to be statistically significant. Comparing the first and repeated family blood donors who were deemed qualified by blood tests and donated within one year, their proportion of repeat donation showed a significant difference. Conclusion Most family blood donors were passive donors, with the purpose to benefit friends and relatives, thus making the conversion of family blood donors into volunteer blood donors difficult.
