Abstract

Objective:To know the type distributing characteristic of irritating cosmetics, and to compare the sensitivity of dermal irritation test with that of eye irritation test, and to determine whether the correlation exist between the results of these two tests. Methods:Dermal irritation and eye irritation of 140 cosmetics were tested in animals, and the results of tests were comparatively analyzed. Results:Among 140 samples, the cosmetics which caused slight and moderate skin irritation accounted for 10.7% and 5.7% respectively, those caused slight irritation, irritation and corrosiveness to eyes accounted for 11.4%,4.3% and 2.9%,respectively.Shampoo gathered most samples that could cause strong skin and eye irritation. The sensitivity of eye irritation test was higher than that of dermal irritation test(Z=-6.67,P0.01),and there was a positive correlation between the results of these two tests(r= 0.414).Conclusion:Shampoo was relatively strong irritating cosmetic to skin and eye.The sensitivity of eye irritation test was higher than that of dermal irritation test generally, and there was weak positive correlation between the results of these two tests.
