Abstract

In this paper, the rapid retting of flax was conducted by the retting strain(No.Ym68')in labo-ratory conditions. The chemical composition of flax stems and the bacteria growth in fermenting liquidwere tested in this process. The results showed:the content of dissoluble substance,pectin,hemicellu-lose,lignin and cellulose in straw is16.57%,7.82%,19.4%,18.4%and21.01%,respectively;the de-crease rates of pectin, hemicellulose and lignin in retted stems are82.10%,17.01%and11.40%,re-spectively;the content of dissoluble substance in flax stems has dropped rapidly from16.57%to7.93%in the first two hours of fermentation;the increase rates of bacteria number in the second two hours is588%,which is the biggest in this process;the content of pectin, hemicellulose and lignin in flax stems will be declining with the retting going on.
