Abstract
Ten perfluorousurfactants have been examined, the rate of gas evolution from zinc surface in alkaline solution with various surfactants have been measured. The polarization curves of zinc electrode have been tested in alkaline solution containing these compounds respectively. The experimental results showed that FSA,FSP,FC-129,FC-430,FC-170C were more effective in reducing hydrogen gassing without evident impending anodic reaction of zinc electrode. The surfactants also increased overpotential of zincates electrodeposition and eliminated dendrite growth of zinc electrode in the charge process. We think these perfluorousurfactants are promising to substitute for mercury on zinc electrode in alkaline solution.
