Abstract

Objective: To survey the effects of tween-80, dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO) and 1, 2- propanediol on inhibitory activity in antibacterial test. Method: Inhibitory activity of all the solvents was detected by agar disc diffusion method for antibacterial test in vitro. Result: Different concentrations of DMSO mixed liquid showed no inhibition to Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli while Tween 80 and 1, 2-propanediol demonstrated interference to antibacterial results. Conclusion: In the investigation of inhibitory activity of non-water-soluble solvents, DMSO has no interference to antibacterial results and is suitable for dissolving non-water-soluble solvents in antibacterial test.
