The Expression of CD11b and CD18 on the Leukocytes of Peripheral Blood in Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke

Abstract

Objective To study the role of expression of adhesion molecules CD11b, CD18 on the leukocytes of peripheral blood in patients with acute cerebral infarction.Methods Using immunofluorescence phenotyping and flow cytometry, the expression of leukocytes adhesion molecules CD11b, CD18 in peripheral blood were measured within 24 h after onset of acute cerebral infarction of 32 patients. Follow up measurements were performed at 72 h and 7 d after ictus.Results CD11b, CD18 immunofluorescence intensity was significantly increased on the leukocytes within 24 h and 72 h after onset in patients with ischemic stroke compared with the normal age matched control group. Follow up measurement of CD11b, CD18 within 7 d after onset revealed normal results as found in the control group.Conclusions These results indicate that the expression of CD11b,CD18 on leukocytes increases in acute ischemic damage, thus promoting adhesion of leukocytes with endothelial cells, which may result in aggravate post ischemic delayed neuronal death.
