Abstract
Objective To analyze personality characteristics and coping styles of military pilots in different age groups. Methods A total of 80 battleplane pilots were divided into group A( 20- 29 years old,n = 40),group B( 30-39 years old,n =34) and group C( 40 years old and over,n =6). The personality characteristics and coping styles of pilots were detected and analyzed with Eysenck personality questionnaire( EPQ) and simple coping style questionnaire, and the differences among the three groups were also compared. Results 1 T introverted and exoscopic scores in group A and B were significantly higher than those in group C( P 0. 05),but the differences between group A and B were not statistically significant( P 0. 05); the differences in T scores of psychoticism and neuroticism among the three groups were not statistically significant( P 0. 05). 2Positive scores of coping styles in group A and B were significantly lower than those in group C( P 0. 05); while the differences in negative coping style among the three groups were not statistically significant( P 0. 05). 3The age factor of pilots had a significantly positive relationship with neuroticism T score( r = 0. 242,P 0. 05),but it was not related with other scores( P 0. 05). Conclusion Military pilots have good personality characteristics and positive coping styles in general which become more and more obvious with the age increase. Health service staff should focus on maintaining the physical and mental health of the pilots according to the characteristics to enhance fighting performance and competence in PLA pilots.
