Abstract
Fe40Ni40Si20 alloy is prepared by mechanical alloying. XRD is used to study the phase transformation, grain size and micro-strain.The result shows that α-Fe(bcc) and γ -Fe(fcc) nanocrystalline solid solution would be achieved after ball milling for 36h. After further ball milling, the supersaturated α phase will be decomposed and transformed into y phase gradually. The complete γ -Fe nanocrystalline solid solution would be achieved after ball milling for 72h. Grain size of the powder is up to 12nm. Micro-strain increases with the increase of milling time first, and then decreases.
