Abstract
As by-product of petroleum industry, petroleum coke has characteristics of low mass fraction of ash, high volatile and high thermal value, but the utilization of petroleum coke as fuel is poor.SEM and XRD techniques were employed to characterize the microstructures of petroleum coke and coal. The thermal decomposition behavior of petroleum coke and coal under air condition was investigated by means of TG in order to distinguish the combustion property of petroleum coke and coal. The aromatic polymer structure of petroleum coke was approximate to that of anthracite, and the combustion performance of petroleum coke could be improved by vesicular structure.Added with petroleum coke, the ignition point of anthracite dropped from 527 ℃ to 482.6 ℃,and its total mass fraction changed from 71.95% to 76.82%.The results show that the burning rate of anthracite can be raised by adding petroleum coke.
