Abstract
The character of ecological environment is fragile in northwest China with slow economic develop-ment.By analyzing chara cters of water resource and current status on social and economic development in northwest China,this study proposed that drought will be a persistent threat in the region in the future.The im-balance of agricultural construction,pollution of villages and towns industries and lagging in urbanization are factors restricting the development of ecological economy in rural regions in northwest China.This paper finally raises strategic countermeasures to realize sustainable development of ecological economy under the restriction of water resource.
