Abstract

Lakes are precious natural resources for human beings.Lakes in desert areas are more precious due to their roles in maintaining desert land ecosystem and preventing sand dune from expending.There are a large number of lakes distributed in the desert andsandy land areas in Inner Mongolia.They form the special landscape views in the arid regions.Based on the description and characterization of the lakes in Inner Mongolia,the ecological functions of the lakes were analyzed and their roles in preventing land desertification were discussed.Measures for lakes protection in the desert areas were also proposed.
