Abstract
Objective To explore the effect of microwave therapy for vocal cord leukoplakia. Methods Twenty-five patients with vocal cord leukoplakia were treated by microwaves under fiberoptic laryngoscope. All the cases were followed up ranging from 1 to 5 years. Results The hoarseness of all the cases improved on 2 weeks after operation. In a follow-up period of 1~5 years, canceration developed in 14 patients with simple leukoplakia.None in 5 patients with simple leukoplakia had malignant change, but 3 cases had malignant change who were the cases with moderate and severe atypical hyperplasia, respectively. Conclusion This method is simple with mild damage to normal tissues, clear operation visual field, less postoperative pain and good way to treat vocal cord leukoplakia.
