A new interpretation of Shijing·Guanjiu

Abstract

There has hardly been an agreed interpretation on the theme of the poem Guanjiu in Book Of Poems, and this essay, from the meaning of the poem, the love and marriage custom in its times, and the historical records, tries to identify the gentleman and the lady in the poem, discusses the arguments of the forerunners, and concludes that Guanjiu is a love poem of a noble mans unrequited love for a peasant girl.
