Contracture of the Gluteal Muscles and Fascia in Adolescent and Adults

Objective:To analyze the clinical features and surgical treatment of contracture of gluteal muscles and fascia in adolescent and adults.Methods:The clinical data of surgical treatment of 23 cases of contracture of gluteal muscles and fascia in adolescent and adults were analyzed retrospectively.The patients,9 cases were male and 14 female,age ranging from 15 to 43 years old,have suffered from this disease for 10 to 35 years.Results:The follow-up range 3 months to 3 years(average1 year and 8 months).The postoperative results were satisfactory and the function of the hip recovered to normal or nearly normal.Of the 23 cases,9 case showed leg length pseudo-discrepancy caused by pelvic obliquity(39.12%).But onlly tow cases showed the different legs length after the operation.It found that the contracture involved the gluteus medius and minimus.That means,owing to the contraction of these muscles,the pelvis began to be inclined.Conclusion:It indicated that the leg′s length of many adolescents and adults who suffered from the disease would be dissimilated because the pelvis inclined.The contracture of the gluteus medius and minimus should be released completely by surgery.If the patient don′t receive the operation in time,the growth of the bone and joints would be affected and the probability of degenerative joint disease increased.
