Abstract

Objective To explore the protective effect of Tablet Fufangjiakang(FFJK)on white blood cells(WBC)in rats with Graves' disease(GD).Methods The rat model with GD was made by injection of Y.E bacteriurm from tail vein. Then rats were randomly divided into normal group, model group and three treated groups.Animals in treated groups were treated intragastrically with Tablet FFJK,Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)and Tapazol, respectively. One month later, the number of blood WBC and the nucleated cells of bone marrow were counted.Levels of serum granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor(GM-CSF)were measured by ELISA and levels of serum lysozyme were measured by turbidimetry assay. Results The number of the nucleated cells of bone marrow in the group treated by TCM was much higher than model group(P0.05).Compared with Tapazol group, the number of blood WBC and the proportion of granulocytes in the nucleated cell of bone marrow were increased significantly(P0.05 or P0.01).Levels of serum lysozyme in model group were higher than those in normal group(P0.01).Compared with Tapazol group, levels of serum lysozyme in Tablet FFJK and TCM groups decreased remarkably(P0.01).However,levels of serum GM-CSF in each group did not show any difference. Conclusion The mechanism underlying Tablet-FFJK protecting WBC in rats with GD might be related to the increase of the number of the nucleated cell in bone marrow and enhancement of the proportion of granulocytes in the nucleated cells.
