Intranasal Endoscopic Management of Cerebrospinal Fluid Rhinorrhea

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect of endoscopic repair of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) rhinorrhea. Method 3 cases of CSF rhinorrhea underwent intranasal endoscopic repair, the fistula orifice was repaired with myoplasm via Messerklinger approach for frontal sinus and sieve sinus CSF rhinorrhea in 1 case for each, and via Wigand approach for sphenoidal sinus CSF rhinorrhea in 1 case. Results All cases were successfully repaired during the first attempt, there was no recurrence with 6 month follow-up. Conclusion The fistulas of CSF rhinorrhea can be found by intranasal endoscopy and be repaired with muscle and fascial graft, which demonstrating a satisfied therapeutic effect.
