Abstract

Objective To evaluate the safety, radical effect, influence on immunity, expenses and long term efficacy of laparoscopic colorectal surgery for elderly patients. Methods The features of perioperative period, expenses and short term and long term effect of 30 elderly patients with laparoscopic colorectal surgery were summarized and analyzed, and they were compared with those of 33 elderly cases of colorectal cancer operated by conventional laparotomy. Results There was no statistical difference between patients of these two groups in tumor size, number of lymph nodes removed and Dukes staging(P0.05).All surgical margins were confirmed without tumor invasion by pathological examination.Patients in laparoscopic surgery group had a longer mean operation time than that of open surgery group(P0.05).Patients in laparoscopic group had a lower average amount of bleeding than that of open surgery group(P0.05).Patients in laparoscopic surgery group had a more quickly recovery time of gastrointestinal function than that of open surgery group(P0.05).Patients in laparoscopic surgery group had higher effect on 1evel of serum CD4/CD8 than that of open surgery group(P0.05).Patients in laparoscopic surgery group had shorter hospitalization days. The medical expenditure of patients in open surgery group was lower.Sixty one cases had followed-up for 5 years, there was similar in number of cases with metastasis of carcinoma between two groups. Conclusion Laparoscopic colorectal surgery is safe and the first choice for patients with age over 70 years old and it should be widely adopted.
