Abstract
Purpose To investigate the flutuation of intraocular pressure ( IOP) after small incision phacoemulsification with foldable intraocular lens implantation and its influence. Methods 154 cases (189 eyes) received phacoemulsification with foldable intraocular lens implantation. Intraocular pressure were measured preoperatively and 6 h, 24 h, 3d, 1 wk, 1 mo and 2 mo postoperatively. Statistical comparison was made in total and grouping. Results The mean postoperative IOP after 6 h and 24 h were statistically significantly higher than the mean preoperative IOP. The mean postoperative IOP after 3 d was not significantly different with the preoperative. After that, the postoperative IOP after I wk, I mo and 2 mo were statistically significantly lower than the preoperative. In addition, IOPs were elevated in the early postoperative period as a result of retained ciscoelastic material, integrity of the posterior capsule, rigidity of nucleus an ultrasound energy. Conclusion The intraocular pressure after small incision sutureless phacoemulsification with foldable intraocular lens implantation may fluctuate, especially when the IOP may elevate transiently in the early period. Then the IOP descended gradually after 1 wk postoperatively.
