Abstract
Objective To investigate the effect of oxymatrine on proliferation of hepatic stellate cells (HSC) of rat liver. Methods HSCs were isolated and cultured from the liver of normal rat by in situ perfusion with pronase and collagenase and density gradient centrifugation with Nycodenz. MTT colorimetry was used for assaying cytotoxicity and incorporation of 3H TdR for assaying proliferation of HSC. Results 10 -5 mol/l oxymatrine can inhibit HSC proliferation ( P 0.05). Conclusion Oxymatrine may prevent hepatic fibrosis by inhibiting HSC proliferation.
