Abstract
One type of bio-additives produced from tropic plant was added into different kinds of gasoline to investigate on the effect of the additive on engine emissions. On testing bench, the engine exhaust emission qualities with and without the additive in the fuels were compared and analyzed. The results showed that when the bio-additives were added into the super-clean gasoline and known components gasoline with the same 93# octane number, the engine emissions like carbon monoxide (CO) and nitric oxide (NO_x) were reduced, except unburned hydrocarbon (HC) increased slightly. Furthermore, the bio-additives also showed its remarkable characteristic in decreasing CO_2 emissions from gasoline engines. For the ethanol-gasoline, when adding the bio-additives into gasoline, the NO_x emissions remained the same level as conventional fuel, but HC and CO_2 were increased compared with the basic fuel.
