Internal fixation with plate for intra-articular fractures of the calcaneus

【Objective】To evaluate the operative method,the clinical effect of intra-articular fractures of the cal-caneus treated by internal fixation with plate. 【Methods】We performed the operation of the open reduction and internal fixation with plate in 18 patients with intra-articular fractures of the calcaneus. 【Results】The 18 patients were followed-up after operation,the average time was 13 months (form 6 months to 18 months). X radiographs showed all patients were achieved solid bone union. The Bohler's angle was no less than 32°,Gissane's angle was no less than 120° and the change in broadement of the calcaneus was less than 2 mm. The evaluation of the results by Maryland Foot Sorce for intra-articular fractures of the calcaneus revealed excellent in 12 cases,good in 5 cases and fair in 1 case,excellent and good rate of clinical results were 94.4%. 【Conclusion】Operative treatment with plate fixation for intra-articular fractures of the calcaneus is advantageous in fracture reduction,good shapement,solid internal fixation and catagmatic concrescence. It is beneficial for functional recovery of the ankle at the utmost. The outcome in the near future is satisfied. It is a better ideally method to treatment intra-articular fractures of the calcaneus than others.
