Abstract

Objective To investigate the main serotype distribution and drug resistance of Vibrio parahaemolyticus from selected retail food products in Zhaoqing, and to provide the evidence for prevention of foodborne diseases cause by Vibrio parahaemolyticus and effective use of clinical antibiotics. Methods Serotype was determined by slide agglutination and the drug resistance was measured by K-B method. Results In 62 strains of Vibrio parahaemolyticus collected from 2007 to 2009,8 serotypes were identified for 45 of 46 strains isolated from food poisoning, the main serotype was O3:K6,accounted for 45.7%(21/46);4 serotypes were identified for 8 of 8 strains isolated from polluted food, the main serotype was O1:K48,accounted for 50.0%(4/8);4 serotypes were identified for 8 of 8 strains isolated from outpatients, the main serotype was O3:K6,accounted for 50.0%(4/8).These isolates were highly resistant to cefuroxime, cefotaxime and cephalothin, the resistance rates were all 50%,and the resistance rates to piperacillin, carbenicillin, ampicillin, and chloromycetin were 38.71%,33.87%,20.97% and 9.68%,respectively.The isolates were susceptible to the other antibiotics in the test, such as ceftriaxone, ceftazidime, cefoxitin, ciprofloxacin, amikacin, levofloxacin, gentamicin, tetracycline, and trimethoprim compound. Conclusions More attention should be paid to the prevention and control of the foodborne diseases caused by Vibrio parahaemolyticu O3:K6 which is multiresistant to antibiotics (more than 6 antibiotics).Aminoglycoside antibiotics and quinolones antibiotics seem the best in curing the infection of Vibrio parahaemolyticus in clinic.
