Abstract
Sodium persulfate being initiator and sodium hydrosulfite being reducer, aqueous solution polymerization of maleic anhydride and acrylic acid was applied to synthesize the copolymer, which can be used as STPP substitute in laundry powder. The weight ratio of maleic anhydride to acrylic acid was 1∶2.Weights of initiator and reducer were respectively 4.0% and 1.9% the weight of monomers.Polymerization was carried out at 90 ℃ and continued for 1 h.The product was a transparent liquid of low viscosity and pale colour. It had good dispersivity and the value of chelating power was 518 mg CaCO 3/g.
