Abstract

The deformation characterstics of four CFRDs with different aspect ratio are compared based on 3-d finite element method, and the effect of aspect ratio on the deformation is studied. The results show that the aspect ratio has lager effect on the dam settlement and normal displacement at the upstream face, but less effect on the axial displacement. In the case of the aspect ratio less than 3.0,the dam settlement and the normal displacement at the upstream face increase with the increasing of the aspect ratio because of the valley arching effect and foundation constraints. The smaller the aspect ratio, the stronger the valley arching effect and foundation constraints will be.In the case of the aspect ratio greater than 3.0,the valley arching effect and foundation constraints are weak,so the dam settlement and the normal displacement at the upstream face are not sensitive to the aspect ratio.
