Application of Ecosystem Health Assessment in Wetland Management

Health assessment of wetlands is one of the key components of wetland research and wetland management. The paper discusses wetland health and its assessment methods, and summarizes application approaches of ecosystem health assessment in wetland management, in order to address the problem that ecosystem health assessment in China not fitted to the rapid development of wetland management. Generally, ecosystem health is the goal and basis of wetland management and ecosystem health assessment can be used to achieve sustainable wetland management. The ecosystem health assessment can be used not only to evaluate and predict the overall state of wetland ecosystem, but also to rank the health situation based on assessment of individual indicators. It can be used to determine the priorities of different wetland management measures, in order to improve the effectiveness of restoration activities and to improve the capacity of integrated wetland management. The ecosystem health assessment is an important tool for wetland management.
