Effects of combined treatment with glimepiride and pioglitazone on metabolic syndrome patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Objective To study the effects of combined glimepiride and pioglitazone on metabolic parameters in metabolic syndrome patients with ytpe 2 diabetes mellitus.Methods 39 metabolic syndrome patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus,defined by the United States Natonal Cholesterol Education Program's Adult Treatment Panel Ⅲ report,were treated with glimepiride and pioglitazone.The changes of metabolic parameters were measured and analyzed before and after drug adminsitration.Results Three months after glimepiride and pioglitazone treatment,there were sigificantly reduced asting plasma glucose,triglyceride,blood pressure and increased HDL cholesterol(P0.01).Conclusion Many metabolic parameters are greatly improved after combined glimepiride and pioglitazone treatment for metabolic syndrome patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
